"Larger Than Life" is a cast of actors/entertainers who perform "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" at Tampa Theatre in downtown Tampa. This show is one of the largest shows in the country, having a sold-out crowd of just under 1500 people in 2000 and 2001 and finally expanding to 2 shows for the first time in 2002. Shows are typically the Friday and Saturday before Halloween and tickets go on sale, many times, as early as September.
"The Rocky Horror Picture Show" movie plays on the big screen while the performers mimic it with mind-numbing accuracy. There are amazing costumes and props used and those attending the shows will be shouting out various Audience Participation (A.P.) lines. Those in the audience who have never attended a live showing are called "virgins" and are encouraged to be part of the "de-virginization" during the preshow. The movie and show are rated R, so it may not be appropriate for younger viewers.
We have been fortunate to have the Rocky Horror Picture Show fan club president, Sal Piro, attend and do part of our preshow for the last four years and, hopefully, he will attend again this year!
